How does it feel to be back at Southgate after your time away? What’s changed, and what’s stayed the same

After 5 years at the University of Exeter, I’m absolutely loving being back at Southgate.  The home matchday atmosphere has only grown with the flairs crowds and, of course, Ali-the-gator! Despite being gone for 5 years, there are still so many familiar faces, and the girls gave me the warmest welcome back!

What’s been the biggest adjustment going from university hockey back to club hockey with Southgate?

Having to juggle work and hockey is very different, compared to the student and sport balance, but training twice a week and playing on a Saturday is such a nice way to spend my time away from work. We do have Exeter in the same league, so I’m very much looking forward to playing against them later in the season.

As a former junior at the club, do you have a favourite memory from those early days that still sticks with you

Winning the Indoor National Finals in January 2019 is definitely my fondest memory. It’s great to come back several years later and still be playing with some of my great friends.

If you could play any other position on the field for one game, what would it be, and why?

When playing indoor I play as a right defensive player, compared to outdoor where I play as a forward. For one game I would love to play as a right back, with an opportunity to see how the roles compare, both defensively and pushing forward.

How has returning to Southgate influenced your playing style or approach to the game?

Returning to Southgate has reminded me how much playing with my friends means to me. The team morale is amazing, and I feel very lucky to be back playing with a great group of girls.

Who has been your biggest inspiration in your hockey journey, and how have they influenced your game?

Having had the opportunity to play and be friends with many people who have pursued hockey professionally, watching them succeed on the world stage is something I really aspire to.
