Southgate Ladies 1st team defeated Chelmsford on Saturday with a superb display of confident and disciplined hockey. Nerves were settled after about 20 minutes with an outstanding individual goal by Elisa Filarmonico. The lead was doubled with a Lucy Thayer goal on 38 minutes but Southgate were pegged back two minutes later. A slightly nervous period of play was relieved by an outstanding team goal. Great pass from Pippa Woodrow saw Lucy Sheffield break into the D and her rifled reverse stick was put over the line by Emily Ruffel Hazell. There followed a period of sustained Southgate pressure, verging on champagne hockey, but another goal just wouldn’t come. With the last hit of the game Chelmsford pulled one back but fortunately there was no time for a Chelmsford comeback. The Ladies are now up to 6th in the Division.
No match for Ladies 2nd team but a great 5-1 win at home v Teddington for the Ladies 3s. They ae now up to 4th in the table.
Ladies 4s beat top of the table Hampstead and Westminster 6s 2-1 and are now just 3 points off the top of Div 1 in the Middx League with a game in hand!!
