Following a disappointing result against Bedford last week, L1s were determined to get three points at home against Broxbourne on October 12.
The start was promising with a string of short corners but all went unconverted. Then after 13 minutes, midfielder Katie Hopkisson won the ball in defence before powering a reverse stick shot into the bottom right corner of the goal to put Southgate ahead.
The home team had control of the game continuing to win PCs but unable to score from any while Broxbourne managed a few counter attacks and PCs of their own which Zara Rose in goal defended excellently.
Coming out of half time the scoreboard read 1-0 until Frankie Cox was able to score in the 38th minute.
Into Q4 Hannah Kilpatrick found herself in a scrap in the middle of the pitch but fought her way out with the ball and went on the attack with Ella Sherring ahead. She threaded through a perfectly weighted pass through to player-of-the-match Ella who deflected on her reverse into the back of the net, taking the lead to 3-0 with seven minutes to go.
It looked like this would be the final tally as unfortunately Katie Hopkisson put a PS ,awarded for a foul on Frankie Cox, just wide of the left post.
However, Broxbourne had the last word in the dying seconds when a mis-hit ball from a forward on the baseline took a lucky deflection that ensured the game finished 3-1 to Southgate.
