A weekend of missed opportunities and luck not falling our way saw us miss out on all three points in a well fought league battle against a strong brombeck outfit. Spirits were high after 3 wins on the trot & we were hopeful that the momentum was to continue unfortunately it wasn’t to be.
Turnovers in our defensive 25 costing us with Brom/Beck capitalizing on 2 errors and slotting goals each time. It’s incredibly unfortunate as our defensive stats have been the best in the league & as a unit to let the team down like this was incredibly disappointing. 12 unconverted PC’s, several missed opportunities going wide or just past a stick & a few posts getting in the way but a game where we had complete dominance & possession saw us unable to get the job done. Past years when the going gets tough the team has rolled over and given up but the fact we fought to the very end and even managed to get one back is credit to the mental toughness that continues to get stronger each time we take the pitch. Jennie Stephens eliminating several players to find frankie cox on the back post gave a goal to close a gap but again we couldn’t capitalise on the opportunities we were creating for ourselves. Man of the match performances to Bobbie Burkin who had a solid game in defense with several crucial jab tackles to break down the brom beck play & to carla Johl who had a field day up front eliminating their defense left, right & centre. A tough day in the office but with a few other results falling our way not all is lost – a few tough league weeks ahead where we must set ourselves up nicely heading into the mid season break.
