Southgate Ladies 6 Broxbourne 1
report by Jim Sherring
A somewhat changed Ladies 1’s team made sure of their path to the 3rd round of the Cup (the winners of this receive a bye in the next round) with a comprehensive victory over near neighbours Broxbourne. With a number of debutants for the 1’s forced on the team by conflicting championship games affecting availability this was a good performance with the understanding growing as the game progressed. An early goal by Charlotte Childs settled the nerves and provided the basis for a dominant first half display. Two further goals gave us a comfortable 3-0 lead at half time; Lucy Leel grabbed the first with a flashing reverse drive; Millie BC added the third from a short corner drag flick. Many other chances were created as VBL in goal was a virtual spectator.
The second half saw a goal of the day competition between Caitlin HC and Millie BC. Caitlin cracked in two terrific goals, one after a good run, whilst Millie BC added the final flourish when a powerful run of 60 yards ended with a piledriver across the keeper into the corner of the net to put the Ladies 6-0 ahead. The only disappointment was not adding a clean sheet when Broxbourne smuggled a goal in the dying minutes.
