It was a perfect set up for our match against West Hampstead. The weather had cooled. A home game. Return of old faces. Fair umpires .
This was probably the toughest of matches the ladies have faced so far and we were grateful for the return of Holly , Megan and Caroline and welcomed new faces of Ashyln and Bella. The pace was fast and furious, West Hampstead had some good players and we were put through our paces. A special mention to Asha working tirelessly both in midfield and defence – keeping their best player ( nicknamed green shorts) in check and to Ashlyn new to the team and a real asset to our midfield.
West Hampstead scored first but a few minutes later gave away a penalty flick which was cleanly put away by Holly and the first half ended a very fair 1-1
With an order from the captain to play more aggressively , Millie and Caroline constructed a beautiful goal soon into the second half to push the home side to 2-1 , Rhi and Jo were outstanding again in short corner defence and it wasn’t long until the oppo succumbed to another goal scored by Mon. But West Hampstead, and especially green shorts, kept pushing and a late goal left us with a frantic final ten minutes to defend our slim lead. Defend we did and the match finished 3-2 to the ladies in red, keeping our lead at the top of the table!
MVP this week went to Millie.
