A long and slightly tortuous journey saw us arrive in Bishop’s Stortford in the drizzle around midday on Saturday. Unusually for us we started really well – the first 15 minutes or so saw us challenging the opposition goal and looking dominant. We eventually took the lead through Hargrove who flicked the ball in after a post short corner melee. The pass to the score by captain Hud-dog was a fine piece of clear thinking. The goal that minutes later saw BS equalise was not so clearly thought through – let’s move on.
The half time team talk was all about moving the ball, keeping our cool and being composed. Within 20 minutes we were 3-1 down having done none of these things. A (rather hard to understand) yellow for Hargrove not helping. It wasn’t for lack of effort but was one of those frustrating days when things just didn’t click and the opposition took advantage. With 5 minutes to go a well worked opportunity saw Raj Saha dive for a deflection. A good goal and brave, feisty finish.
Sam Levene couldn’t be blamed for any of the goals especially a very well struck corner. Jon Huddleston as skipper was solid in defence as was the ever dependable James Rushton. Almost perennial MOM David James wasn’t quite at his very best but still offered a threat. Nigel Knight & Sajiv Saha both also offered threats moving forward. In midfield Will Hargrove was ok when concentrating but the aerials didn’t quiet come off. Fergus Comrie & Raj Saha were both industrious especially the former who was our Man of the Match. Upfront space was at a premium. But endless runs where made byNayan Bhundia, Randall Hyer, David Wolffe and the handful that is Alex Hyer. It was just one of those days…a special note for the good facilities and rather splendid veggie Thai green curry.
