INTERVIEW | CAITLIN POLLEY

Caitlin, firstly welcome to your first season at Southgate. How have you settled in so far and what brought you to our club?

I have felt very welcomed coming into such a tight-nit social club. Having heard from players at Exeter and my old teammates there the strong ethos of the club and high level I thought it would be a great fit.

It was a tight game against Surbiton last weekend, What are your reflections on the game ?

Even though the result didn’t go our way, the game was fast flowing and much more the style we have been aiming to play which is a big step forward for us. Next just comes getting the win!

What have been the main challenges you have faced personally and as team so far this year?

Main challenges as a team – I wouldn’t say challenge but it’s admirable going into training on a Monday of a loss and everyone being positive for the week ahead. Main challenges personally – getting used to how everyone plays – but this becomes better game by game.

What would you say has been the highlight for you so far this season?

My highlight will be this game against my previous team Exeter uni

What strengths do you bring to the team that will help the team excel this season?

Calmness under pressure and ability flexibility across lines.

What’s one random fact about you that no one would guess?

I’m ambidextrous.

What’s a valuable lesson from a past season or team that you want to bring here?

To find the positives in a season full of losses.

What’s a personal highlight in your sports career so far?

Obtaining Bronze at U16 6 Nations or the 2022-23 season in general at University – getting promoted to Prem and getting to BUCS final.
