A 5-0 victory away at Horsham secures third spot in Investec EHL Conference East for Southgate Ladies 1s after four matches.
A solid start with fantastic pressing ensured there were some good chances in Q1 as uni-returner and player of the match Caitlin Creeley made some particularly good runs and tackles putting in a consistent and composed performance.
After patient play and slick transferring around the back in Q2, Southgate were rewarded with a free hit just outside the oppo’s 23. A slap in from Milly Powers found Ella Sherring who took a cool reverse strike to open the scoring. The away team continued to dominate play, with Zara Rose having little to do in the Southgate goal.
The chances were stacking up and a second looked inevitable when some outrageous skill from Lucy Leel in the circle saw her score from an extremely tight angle.
Q3 opened with some smooth skills in midfield from Katie Hopkisson and Jennie Stephens and it wasn’t long before the third goal came from a determined drive along the baseline to play in Frankie Cox who was ready on the P spot for a well-placed finish.
Emily Meredith, Clarissa Schilling and Bobbie Burkin all made solid passes out of defence and it was one such ball from Emily Meredith that created a tap-in goal for Emily Ruffell-Hazell. The final goal came from a scramble in the ‘D’ with a speedy slap in to give Lucy Leel her second in the 54th minute.
Next match: Ipswich away, Sunday October 27, 1200h.
