A below par performance was good enough for a 2-1 victory over bottom of the table West Herts, and with both Oxted and Cambridge dropping points, the three points gained sent the M1s back to the top of the East Conference in the Men’s Hockey League.
It was West Herts who opened the scoring through a Will Alderton penalty corner in the sixteenth minute. John Sterlini equalised for Southgate eleven minutes later from a penalty corner of their own sending the teams in level at half time. Sterlini got his, and Southgate’s second, from another penalty corner in the fifty third minute which proved enough to take the win and all three points.
