For the second consecutive year, the M2s on their way to Lee Valley for the final of EH’s 2nd XI Cup after beating Brooklands 2-1 on Sunday.
The M2s welcomed Brooklands to Trent Park for their semi-final of the 2nd XI Cup, a repeat of last year’s final. Brooklands raced into a 1-0 lead, scoring almost from the whistle, and proceeded to dominate the first quarter in ominous fashion. Slowly, Southgate worked themselves back into the match and took control, equalising before the interval courtesy of a Ollie Wickham deflection at a penalty corner. The second half continued in a similar vein to the end of the first with Southgate on top, going in front from a Shaun Comley penalty corner. Brooklands rarely threatened to equalise, although there were nervous moments when they were awarded a penalty corner on the stroke of full time, but despite two re-awards, the M2s were able to clear at the third attempt. They now face either Surbiton or Notts Uni in the final at Lee Valley on the 30th of April, where they will look to retain their title.
The M2s also won 6-3 v Spencer on Saturday to stay third in London Prem.
Ssshhhh, maybe the M2s had an unfair advantage with the invisible man making an appearance for them…..
