Like a phoenix from the flames, M3As rose above last week’s disappointing loss to secure a 3-2 home win against Berkhamsted & Hemel Hempstead 2s.
M3As put in a total team performance with just 12 players. A well-fought first half left Southgate 2-0 up at the break with a PC goal from Ravi Chana and a far-post tap-in for Jason Martins.
The second half started shakily and Southgate were pegged back to 2-2 before long. All through the second half the 3As were under pressure but there was excellent work from GK Veysel Demir and his defence. Matt Ellis banged in the winner with a clinical far-post finish less than five minutes from the end following a great team move, set up by Jason Martins. MoM was defender Josh Chandler.

Tankards Y v Blueharts 7s 0-1 loss

MoM – Alastair Whatley & Wiz
A good game with Tankards making the brighter start and scoring first, Stevenage hit back from a short corner and a sweeping break to take the lead. Tankards levelled only for Stevenage to go ahead again. This set the pattern for the match.
Tankards enjoyed superior possession and field position with some good passing, running and commitment from the whole team however we were punished on the break with some fast moving attacks from the Stevenage team.
Magnums 60s v Reading Super Vets 1-6 loss
Goal – Colin Warne
MoM – Tony James
Magnums 60s faced a strong Reading side in their second match of the season. It was always going to be tough, but the Southgate midfield were outstanding as was the defence and the early chances came the way of Southgate. Reading continued to test Magnums’ resolve and eventually scored. They racked up two more by half time, in a score line that did not do justice to the north-Londoners’ overall performance. Southgate pulled one back early into the second hal;, a great strike across the keeper into the far corner from Colin Warne. Alas that was to be the high point and Reading ran out 6-1 winners.
