With another emphatic win on Saturday (16th) and with one game to go the Men’s 3As have won the East League Division 6SW.
Played 21, Won 18, Drew 1 and Lost 2. Goals for (so far) 99, Goals Against just 17.
This is a great achievement and has been realised through combining the great work that was started by the Pitchers in the previous three or four seasons with the new style of game play brought to the rebranded 3As through the Captaincy of Nigel Knight.
Having Paul Creeley, Phil Peters and Brian Cade’s strength, experience and tireless effort at the core of the side from last season, together with prolific goalscoring ability of Zak Lennard, the vision and composure of Ben Berndes-Cade, the pace and intelligence of James Atkinson and the never-say-die blood-and-guts approach from Alfie Pizey as the base on which to build the side was fabulous. Very quickly a cohesive unit was created which included the young talents of Tom Davies, Matt Ellis, Josh Cohen, Barney Collier and Sam Marshall. These boys made the step up in pace and standard of play seamless. Their selection was soon followed by further youth in the form of Seby van Sonsbeeck and Lucas Jaehnig.
The blending of experience, tactical nous and vision of the established Club players with the raw talent, skill, pace and energy of the burgeoning youth from the Junior section proved to be the winning formula. This template is being mirrored in Tankards A who themselves are currently top of the next league down (ESW 7) – more in a future newsletter we hope!
Congratulations to the 3As and to the many players that played for them this season whether as a regular or as selected guest player – you have all played a vital part in this success story.
