Tankards A v St Albans 6s Won 4-0
Tankards Y v St Albans 9s Won 6-2
Tankards Z v Bishop’s Stortford 5s Won 2-1
3As –
Result: Lost 2-1
Goal: Lucas Jaehnig
MoM: Noah Lavy
League Position: 4th
This was a team performance against a strong St Albans side that moved the ball around well and caught us out on the counter-attack. It was 0-0 at half time with the highlight a thundering reverse hit strike by Oscar Prior that hit the post. The second half started much the same but it was St Albans’ counter-attack that brought the first goal. A well-won short corner thanks to Jackson Trathen resulted in a slap-in goal by Lucas Jaehnig but it was St Albans that hammered home the winner from their own PC a short while later
Tankards A –
Result: 4-0 WIN all goals in first half
Goals: Will Hargrove 2, Ben Millson 1, Ruben Straat 1
MoM: Jack Levene
League Position: 5th
Sam Levene was very solid in goal including saving a stroke. Play build from the back and the front half rotated well using all 15 players to maximum effect as shown by goals coming from a PS, PC and open play.
Tankards Y –
Result: 6-2 Win
Goals: Harry Grinham (2), Fin Bachelor (2) Haimish Patel & MS Patti,
MoM: Wayne Garner
League Position: 5th
What was really encouraging was the team work of Tankards Y, short good passes from Harry Grinham, not too much dribbling from Freddie Trathen, Vivek Dongha or Guy Garner and mid field was providing release balls for the forwards to attack. MS Patti found himself alone in the D and had a couple of shots including one beautifully struck goal bound effort that got nudged away. Coming out 1-1 after half time, Tankards conceded a goal early on but then were very much in the ascendancy racking up five in reply.
Tankards Z –
Result – Won 2-1
Goals – Howard Clayden & Mat Mitchell
MoM – Mat Mitchell
League Position – 3rd
A very good win for Zs, coming back from 1-0 down at half time to win 2-1.
Making a switch to four across the middle towards the end of the first half made the difference and Zs started the second half with much more composure and equalised in the first 10 minutes through a lovely strike from the right of the goal by Howard Clayden. The game was fairly tight from then on with Bishop’s Stortford coming close to going back into the lead, but a really good call in the last 10 minutes saw Mat Mitchell taking the ball from right midfield into the left-hand side of the D for a reverse-stick finish to lift the ball over the diving keeper and seal the win.
