Southgate has some fresh players to gear up for the forth-coming season in the Prem, which start this weekend, with the first match against Brooklands MU. We caught up with Neil Withington the M1 player liaison to get the lowdown our new signings. I am sure you will give them all a big Southgate welcome!
Adam Miller
Adam joins us fresh from his studies at Durham University and after a summer playing for he USA in a test series against Argentina. He comes highly recommended by Mo Gandhi and with a reputation for being a combative defender with bags of energy and a drive to get forward when the opportunity presents. Adam will no doubt be a big favourite on the terraces.
Allan Dick
A Scotland international and very well respected GK Allan joins us from Holcombe HC as a replacement for Chris Hibbert. Allan has taken no time to assert himself his presence on and off the pitch is a considerable benefit to the side and we are honoured to have him with us. We also welcome Allan’s wife Muslimah to Southgate – another teacher who I hope can help control my kids during match days.
Chris Baker
Equally big shoes to fill were those of Andy Thomas but in Chris we have a fantastic replacement. Chris joins from Wimbledon HC and comes with Premier League experience. Chris has already impressed with his commitment driving to training and games from his home in Southampton! The move back to London cannot come soon enough.
Danny Sisson
Danny joins us from outside the National League coming from Long Sutton HC in the East league. Danny is a forward of some repute having bagged over 30 goals last season the majority of which came from the reverse stick which will no doubt trouble the leagues best this year. Another who likes a long drive and has shown great commitment during pre season travelling with a large entourage of supporters!
Matt Guise-Brown
A new signing from South Africa this one comes with a UK passport! Matt has recently been recalled into the SA international setup and offers a fearsome drag flick to complement astute defensive play. He and Rick Gay will form a fearsome short corner attack that should rival any other out there. Matt’s coaching has already made him a big favourite with the Ladies section and is another player that will no doubt impress the supporters.
Darren Cheesman
Darren joins us from Reading HC after watching the last few games from up on the balcony. Darren comes with great experience, is a GB and England international and is arguably one of the most talented players in the league. Well known to many at Southgate HC having been coached by Martin Foxall and others Darren is also a friend and former team mate of Rick Gay from their time at East Grinstead.
And not forgetting new signing to the M1s but not to Southgate, Duncan Scott. Duncan is the youngest member of the squad at just 16 but has already shown his class in training where he regularly runs rings round the established players. Duncan capped an incredible couple of days by turning 16, being registered for the 1st team and scoring his first 1st team goal against Canterbury. A great talent for now and the future!
