The first social events of the Southgate season – a high-tea cake and prosecco afternoon followed by a quiz night – brought in the crowds on October 26 and have given club funds a fillip.
Ladies 1s organised the high-tea and the quiz night extravaganza which were well attended by players from a range of men’s and ladies’ teams as well as some juniors and their parents.
More than £400 was raised through sales of baked goodies handmade by the first-team ladies, as well as from quiz entries, a raffle and games such as heads-or-tails and coin-toss in the bar.
The most successful team on the night were the Lime & Sodas made up of ladies from the 4s and 5s with guest Gary Hammond who proved to be an expert in all things 1970s and Oscar Wilde.
Between them the Lime & Sodas managed to come second in the quiz itself and run out victorious in both heads-and-tails and the coin-toss as well as bagging a hat trick of raffle prizes.
Thanks to all concerned for making the night such a success.
