Southgate Hockey Club is introducing a new initiative, SOUTHGATE BUSINESS CLUB, brought to you by Richmond Lum, Mo Gandhi and Aedan McCrossan from our Men’s First Team Squad. We caught up with Richmond Lum to find out a bit more about the initiative.
What has led you to set up The Southgate Business Club?
The idea of the Southgate Business Club comes from an idea of bringing together like minded people in a community where they can connect, share knowledge, and support each other. It’s an opportunity to create a network where local businesses and club members can build meaningful relationships, and where collaboration extends beyond the field.
What are your aims and ambitions for the club moving forward?
Our main goal is to establish the Business Club as a hub for business leaders and professionals to connect, inspire, and grow. We want to create a community where members can share ideas, insights, and explore opportunities to support each other’s business goals.
Looking ahead, we aim to organise events, networking sessions, and leadership panels to bring fresh perspectives and discussions to our members.
What do you see as the main connection between a sport like hockey and the business world?
Hockey, like business, is about strategy, resilience, and adaptability. You need to be agile, think proactively, and work effectively as a team. Whether it’s leading a project or playing on the turf, success comes from a blend of individual skill and collective effort. The Business Club provides a platform for people to share lessons and values between the worlds of business and sport.
Is the club open to everyone? How can people join?
Absolutely, the Southgate Business Club is open to all business professionals, whether they’re members of Southgate Hockey Club or part of the broader local business community. We welcome anyone who’s interested in connecting with others and contributing to this network.
The club is launching with a night on Monday, 9th December – tell us more about that and how people can get tickets.
We’re excited to kick off the Southgate Business Club with a launch event on Monday, 9th December. The evening will feature an introduction to the club’s vision, networking opportunities, and an inspiring talk from our guest speaker, Jason Lee, current Men’s 1 assistant coach and a professional with extensive experience bridging sport and business. This event is a chance for people to connect, share ideas, and get a sense of the club’s mission.
