L0-1
report by Jo Price
Crashers, captained jointly by Cat Parr and Bhu McJennett began their summer campaign against West Hampstead 1’s. The latter having lost 1-7 to Hotshots the previous week, had opted to strengthen their squad ,resulting in a hard fought but low scoring affair.
In the first half there was strong play and scoring opportunities from both sides with WH finally breaking the deadlock . TBH I did not see the goal but am reliably told that it was a well taken one from the opposition.
In the second half there was more toe to toe play from both sides. Crashers producing surging runs from Sarah Batt down the right Vicky Greensmith and Olivia Jeeves through the middle and Lily Freeman on the left. Ably assisted by a barrage of crosses from the right from Cat Parr and Sophia Sellick. Solid defence from a variety of sub rotations of Sarah Tingle, Bhu McJennet, Lucy Jarman, and Georgie Shrimpton continuously found a way to repel any further score from the opposition.
A moment of drama arrived when Crashers continuing to push forward in search of the elusive goal, conceded a PF from a WH counterattack. Step forward GK Vicky Paver in her first game at the club who was able to parry a low shot to her right and keep the score at 0-1. Big thumbs up to her- just a shame in the pic that the ball is almost the same colour as her kickers……… but it is there if you look carefully!
There was one further chance for the home side when a well injected ball from a PC allowed Cob to step in for the strike but their defensive runner was out very quickly to snuff out the chance and ensure that the win was theirs,
