Gathering at Hertford, a Tankards team evenly balanced between teens and seventies looked forward to a competitive return match. A little slow to start with early Hertford pressure was turned round and followed by a succession of more short corners without result than we have all season. Nevertheless, Chris calmly took the ball into the circle and put us ahead. The rest of the half was spent in the Hertford half, largely the result of a magisterial centre line of Oli, Randall and Chris who stifled any Hertford possession and returned it through Will and Freddie, both influential on the right.

Ten minutes into second half and the wind had been taken out of Hereford’s sails as we were 3-0 up, then 4,5 and 6. Scorers Oli 3 (one from a p/f) Randall any Tony ( who also missed a hatful of open goals – but great to have him back). Nigel, after his heroics last week, touched the ball twice.

Comprehensive – yes – but Hertford are introducing new players, particularly BTH, and are to congratulated for never giving up.

A shout out as well for the umpires who contributed so much to the game, and for the hospitality of our hosts.
