Match Report by Milly Powers

After some very tough fixtures, Southgate W1s took the (unreasonably) complicated journey to Wimbledon, to take on their W2s. Searching for a win and wanting to continue on some positive team play the team in red started well.

We built the pressure in the first quarter with some excellent forward play from Lorna and Georgie B. We pressed well and made it really challenging for them to hold onto possession. We had a number of very close changes through great interplay by Charlotte C and Helen.

The first quarter finished 0-0 with plenty of changes. We knew we had a goal coming. Wimbledon started the second quarter quickly catching Southgate off guard. They scored a quick goal to make it 0-1. Southgate came back straight away with a well worked goal scored 20 seconds later with a good finish from Emma McIntyre.

We continued to press well but Wimbledon had more possession. Flora made some exceptional tackles at the back to keep the scores down alongside some fantastic saves from Bray. Southgate scored a lovely goal from an excellent deflection by Georgie B.

Another few brilliant attacks with excellent play from Emma P and Southgate were looking dangerous. Some good join up in midfield between the Robbo combo and Lily had a strong finish from the P spot.

A great win under the belt and we go against next weekend with the long trip to Harleston Magpies.
