πŸ‘ Southgate Juniors – Weekly Round-Up

What another brilliant weekend of junior hockey!Β

From some of our youngest players experiencing league and tournament hockey for the very first time, to our older teams producing some fantastic performances, there was plenty to celebrate across the Junior section this week.

A huge well done to every player who pulled on a Southgate shirt this weekend. Whether you came away with a win, draw or defeat, every match is another opportunity to learn, grow in confidence and enjoy playing hockey with your teammates. πŸ‘

🐍 U10 Girls – London Mini League

A really exciting weekend for our U10 Girls at the London Mini League against Hampstead & Westminster and an especially big well done to those playing in their first league and tournament matches for Southgate! πŸ”΄

Boas: 2 wins & 1 draw πŸ’ͺ
Adders: 1 win, 1 draw & 2 losses
Mambas: 3 losses

For some of our young players, simply stepping onto the pitch for their first competitive matches is a huge milestone. It’s wonderful to see them learning how to play together as a team, putting their training into practice and, most importantly, having fun representing Southgate.

We’re sure these will be the first of many Southgate tournaments and matches to come! Keep going, girls!Β

πŸ”₯ U10 Boys – London Mini League

Another exciting milestone for our U10 Boys at the London Mini League hosted by Hampstead & Westminster, with some players also getting their first taste of league and tournament hockey.

And what a day they had – three wins from five matches and an impressive 13 goals scored!

Results:

Southgate 1–0 Harrow Eagles
Southgate 5–0 Harrow Hawks
Southgate 1–3 Ealing
Southgate 7–0 H&W Shipperley
Southgate 0–2 H&W Crowson

There was some brilliant attacking hockey, great teamwork and lots of valuable match experience throughout the day.

For our newer players in particular, these early tournaments are all about learning, building confidence and discovering just how much fun competitive hockey can be.

A fantastic effort from the whole team! Well played, boys! πŸ‘

πŸ‘ U12 Girls – London Mini League

Another busy afternoon of London Mini League hockey for our U12 Girls, with the Zebras and Buffaloes both getting plenty of competitive match experience against Hampstead & Westminster opposition β€” as well as a Southgate head-to-head! πŸ’™πŸ‘

πŸ¦“ Southgate Zebras

A fantastic afternoon for the Zebras, who bounced back brilliantly after their opening match to record three consecutive wins, including two clean sheets!

Zebras 0–3 H&W Hunt
Zebras 1–0 H&W Martin
Zebras 2–0 Southgate Buffaloes
Zebras 4–0 H&W Pritchard

What a response from the girls – three wins from four, seven goals scored and three successive clean sheets! A brilliant display of resilience and teamwork. Well done, Zebras! πŸ¦“

🦬 Southgate Buffaloes

A tougher set of fixtures for the Buffaloes this week against some strong opposition, but lots of valuable match experience for the girls.

Buffaloes 1–3 H&W Martin
Buffaloes 0–2 H&W Pritchard
Buffaloes 0–5 H&W Hunt
Buffaloes 0–2 Southgate Zebras

Results don’t always tell the whole story, particularly in junior hockey. Every match against strong opposition is an opportunity to learn, develop and come back stronger. Keep working hard, supporting one another and enjoying your hockey, Buffaloes – the results will come!Β

A big well done to both of our U12 Girls teams for representing Southgate. Plenty of hockey, plenty learned and lots more to look forward to as the season progresses!Β

πŸ‘ U12 Boys – London Mini League

Another action-packed London Mini League for our U12 Boys, who battled through five competitive matches and came away with two wins and a draw.

Results:

Southgate 0–0 H&W Crowson
Southgate 0–1 H&W Graves
Southgate 2–0 H&W Shipperley
Southgate 2–1 Wapping
Southgate 0–1 Honor Oak

A special mention this week for Nivein, with some excellent goalscoring, and Tomi, who put in a fantastic performance in goal. 🌟

Great work from the whole team – some really encouraging hockey throughout the day. Keep it going, boys!Β

πŸ’ͺ U14 Boys – Another Huge Performance!

Southgate U14 Boys 12–0 Eastcote

Another incredible result from our U14 Boys, who followed up last week’s impressive performance with another commanding victory.

Twelve goals and a clean sheet is a fantastic achievement and reflects a brilliant all-round team performance at both ends of the pitch.

Well played, boys – what a result! πŸ’ͺπŸ‘πŸ‘

πŸ‘ U14 Girls – Dolphins vs Spencer Aurora

Southgate U14G Dolphins 1–7 Spencer U14 Aurora

Southgate goalscorer: Elsie – approx. 19 mins

Southgate faced a very strong Spencer side who controlled much of the game and put the defence under constant pressure. Despite conceding an early goal, Southgate responded well, with Elsie Minford equalising from a short corner after some sustained pressure.

Spencer regained control and added further goals before and after half-time, while Southgate continued to battle hard and create a few attacking opportunities of their own. The goalkeeper made several excellent saves to keep Southgate in the game.

Although the result didn’t go Southgate’s way, the girls showed great determination and resilience, continuing to run, compete and support each other throughout against a tough opposition. Well done, girls! πŸ‘

πŸ”₯ U16 Girls – What a Start!

Southgate U16 Girls 10–0 Old Loughts

What a way to get the T1 League campaign underway! πŸš€

The U16 Girls produced a fantastic performance to secure an emphatic 10–0 victory over Old Loughts.

And there were goals aplenty:

Jas – 4 goals
Felicienne – 4 goals
Ezgi – 1 goal
Amba – 1 goal

Ten goals, four goalscorers and a clean sheet – a superb team performance and a brilliant start to the league. Congratulations, girls! πŸ‘

πŸ‘ U16 Boys – Victory Over Old Loughts!

Southgate U16 Boys 4–2 Old Loughts

The U16 Boys made it another Southgate victory over Old Loughts with an excellent 4–2 win!

Kitt – 2 goals
Gabe – 2 goals

A brilliant result and a great contribution from both goalscorers. Well done to the whole team! πŸ’ͺπŸ‘

πŸ”΄βšͺ️ From First Tournaments to League Hockey βšͺοΈπŸ”΄

One of the loveliest things about this weekend was seeing players at different stages of their Southgate and hockey journey, from some of our U10s experiencing competitive hockey for the first time, right through to our U16s competing in their league campaigns.

Those first tournaments are where so many hockey memories begin. We hope our youngest players came away excited, proud of themselves and already looking forward to the next one!Β

And while we love celebrating the goals and victories, junior hockey is about so much more than the scoreline. Every match helps our players develop their skills, build confidence, learn from one another and grow as teammates.

So whether your team won, drew or lost this weekend, well done for your enthusiasm, contribution, representing Southgate and giving it your all! πŸ‘πŸ‘

As always, a huge thank you to our coaches, managers, umpires, volunteers and parents who give up their time to make these opportunities possible for our juniors each week.Β
