Southgate W4’s secured a thrilling 5-1 victory over West Herts W2’s in an action-packed match in Watford. Although we found ourselves on the back foot early, conceding within the first 5 minutes, the team kept their cool and swiftly turned the tide.
In the first half, Alex, our team’s top scorer, put us back in the game with a well-timed goal, leveling the score. Not long after, Maz wowed the crowd with a stunning reverse flick off a second wave penalty corner, slotting the ball into the top corner and taking us into halftime with a 2-1 lead.
The second half saw us elevate our game even further. The entire team played with unity and intensity, stringing together some of the best teamwork we’ve displayed all season. While Lena and Georgie might have had a quieter day at the back, it was a testament to our dominance in keeping the play firmly in the attacking 50.
Captain Michelle led by example, scoring our final three goals to seal the victory. Each goal was the product of seamless teamwork, starting with the defence, orchestrated beautifully through midfield, and capped off with some impressive play in the circle. The West Herts GK was in fine form, but our persistence and positioning made all the difference.
The connections, the effort, and the enjoyment were truly palpable on the pitch, making the late 4.30pm pushback absolutely worth it. We look forward to carrying this momentum into our upcoming home game against Wapping W4‘s next Saturday.
