In the first half, Southgate conceded three goals to Eastcote but managed to respond with a brilliant goal from Hannah, who with support of the attacking line, capitalised on a short corner opportunity to reduce the deficit. The defence line, consisting of Dervla, Elle, Claire, and Andrea, was a constant force, making crucial interceptions and saving numerous attempts on goal. The team faced a staggering number of short corners but successfully defended every single one, showcasing their resilience and commitment.
The midfielders—Hannah, Julie, Keira, and Alice—were vital in supporting both defence and attack, working tirelessly to keep the flow of the game in Southgate’s favour. Up front, Suneeta and Lynn worked well as a forward pair, consistently pressuring Eastcote’s defenders.
In the second half, Southgate’s defensive effort remained strong, only conceding two more goals to the opposition. Lynn added another incredible goal for Southgate, taking full advantage of a great setup from Julie to give the team something to cheer about. Despite the 5-2 loss, Southgate was incredibly proud of their performance, given the challenges of playing without subs and without a goalkeeper.
Julie Bragg was voted MVP by her teammates, thanks to her tireless support throughout the game. Not only did she play a key role in defending and driving the ball forward, but she also helped set up both of Southgate’s goals, demonstrating her leadership and energy on the field.
