Match Report by Nigel Knight
An explosive start for the M7s. The team balanced youth (6 from our junior section), strength (4 from Club) and 4 from our august senior section. Our opponents, the mighty Hertford 7, fielded a development squad full of skill and pace with senior players. Hertford flew out of the blocks, ripped through our defence and went 2 nil-up after 5 minutes. (gulp).
M7 settled and responded with beautiful hockey going forward and scramble hockey going backwards. Aravind and Kai carried with strength and speed. Ravi popped up in the D time-and-again to score. By halftime, the scores were roughly 5:4 to Hertford (hard to keep track). We were playing some beautiful hockey, but would it be enough?
The team’s effort and concentration in the second half was outstanding. We tightened defence, were resolute in denying Hertford’s skillful players and continued to fly forwards. M7s earned a very satisfying 9:6 win. A tremendous start to what looks set to be a very exciting and dramatic season for the M7s.
