St Albans Centurions 1 – 2 Magnums. Following our last late, wet, push back at Amersham we had yet another 4.30pm start at Oaklands College. The team welcomed the inclusion of our President, James Duthie, who played right (wing) back and performed admirably in both defence and attack. Also returning for his first game since last season was Howard Clayden in midfield where it didn’t look like he had missed any games. The first half began with us changing to our white kit to aid visibility in the gloom. All was going well until St Albans scored, only for the umpire to disallow it for a back stick. Soon after with about 10 minutes left in the half Randall Hyer made his way into the top of the D and unleashed a ferocious shot into the top corner. 1 nil at half time. Second half continued as the first with Magnums controlling the game most of the time. A second goal soon came. A short corner injected to captain Tim who somehow squeezed a drag flick between the post and defender on the line. Unfortunately with about 15 minutes to go a penalty flick was dubiously awarded against us and scored so the last few minutes were a bit tense. However, Magnums defence held out with hardly any scares to secure a second win of the season and make the late start feel not so bad after all. Overall, a fine team performance.
