Match report by Fergus Comrie
Southgate M4 vs Hampstead and Westminster Zak Hond
2-2
The game started in dramatic fashion, with Scott setting the tone early by (unintentionally) leaving a leg out, causing an opponent to take an unfortunate dive chin-first into the turf. A bold opening statement, if nothing else.
Despite our enthusiasm, the first half didn’t go quite to plan. After conceding a short corner—courtesy of myself—I then took it upon myself to assist the opposition with an unintended but spectacular deflection, guiding the ball into the top left corner. An own goal of real quality, if I do say so myself. That left us 2-0 down at halftime and in need of a serious regroup.
The halftime team talk must have worked because we came out firing. Huw stepped up on a penalty flick and calmly slotted it in—2-1, and suddenly, we had a game on our hands.
Momentum continued to shift in our favor when Tom took a quick sideline ball and drove into the D, seemingly oblivious to LIK screaming for it at the back post. Either he was too locked in, or he had forgotten to put his hearing aid in. Regardless, he went for goal himself, scoring making it 2:2.
As the pressure mounted, the opposition completely lost their heads, with 2 of their players finding themselves sent off. With an advantage, we pushed hard, but despite the chaos, the final whistle blew.
An entertaining game. On to the next!
