The Magnums March On!

Match Report By Tim Gingell

So we managed a team for this the first outing, after the cancellation previously due to lack of numbers, the happy twelve, including Hitesh (double up) Mody, soon to be thirteen thanks to the late availability of Ben Turner who drove his house guests away to be able to join us.

Against a strong and well organised A&C side we were under the ‘cosh’ from the start and struggled to get the ball up the pitch to put them under much pressure, but we did get to practice our penalty corner defence regularly and at our age to be able to break prematurely three times should be applauded, Graeme Welch take a bow.

With the back line under pressure, Jonny, Trevor and Sarge all stood up to the task, the pressured midfield Hitesh, Graeme, Giles, Stroller and Ben all working tirelessly and the strikers Patti, Andrew (twenty-minute knees) Pom and Ian (really must get a new stick) Grammar living off the scraps of possession we could get to them, for those who can count yes no mention of yours truly or Cliff as yet.

We turned around 2-0 down.

The second half followed more of the same, but pressure, age doubling up and tiredness despite trying to use the bench took its toll and we eventually succumbed to mistakes (that’s where I get a mention) and errors and a 5-0 defeat.

Special mention in dispatches must go to the MoM Cliff Peck, voted by the opposition, who played more like his name, a Cliff face, than ‘the edge’ his normal nom de plume.

Onwards to next week for another test at Bromley and Beckenham awayMagnums report – So we managed a team for this the first outing, after the cancellation previously due to lack of numbers, the happy twelve, including Hitesh (double up) Mody, soon to be thirteen thanks to the late availability of Ben Turner who drove his house guests away to be able to join us.
