Result: Southgate W6  0 – 3 Old Merchant Taylors’

We fell to a 3–0 defeat, with the opposition scoring twice in the first half and adding a third after the break. Despite the result, there was plenty of grit and togetherness on show.

Hells was outstanding in goal, pulling off numerous saves to keep us in it, especially during a spell when we had a lot of short corners to defend.

At the back, Kim, Chloe, Dervla, Udeshi and Emma were busy throughout, making vital tackles and clearances to limit further damage. In midfield, Isher, Jess and Greta worked tirelessly to win possession and link play forward, disrupting the opposition’s rhythm whenever possible. Up front, Alice, Suneeta and Abby pressed hard and looked to stretch their defence. Suneeta created a good opening and got a shot away to test the keeper.

While the scoreline didn’t go our way, the resilience under pressure to a seasoned team – particularly at set pieces – and the strong work rate across the pitch are solid foundations.

Next time, we’ll look to push further up the pitch and put more pressure on the opposition’s defence, and build towards more opportunities in the circle.
