Result: Southgate W2 4 – 0 Hampsteas & Westminster W3
Goalscorers: Olivia Holme; Jess Denniff; Portia Davies; Jennie Stephens
After a whole seven wins, the Women’s 2s finally secured the clean sheet they long deserved with a decisive victory away against Hampstead and Westminster W3s.
Olivia Holme won the first goal when she expertly drag-flicked a short corner into the bottom right, just outside the goalie’s reach and with too much pace for the post played to react.
The second goal came when Jess Denniff out-skilled the keeper to put the ball home, and Portia Davies clinched the third after a scuffle in the D.
Another short corner brought a deflection from Jennie Stephens into the goal, no doubt adding insult to jury for a team who have had their fair share of tough-to-swallow scorelines.
Credit where it’s due to H&W, their keeper had a great game and without her Southgate would easily have achieved double figures (also props to her for turning up with all her kit). Shots on goal were limited for the opposition, but they did have a presence in our circle and it’s thanks to our excellence defenders that H&W didn’t get any more attempts.
Well done to Captain Jennie for MoM, and the W2s face Wayfarers at home this Saturday for what will hopefully be another positive performance.
