Report by Mon Glover
The game started with Southgate dictating the pace, and it didn’t take long for the breakthrough to come. Mon Glover opened the scoring with a great team goal, calmly slotting the ball past the keeper. The momentum continued in Southgate’s favor, and a well-executed penalty corner saw Laura Robertson double the lead just before halftime. Laura reacted quickly to a rebound, smashing the ball into the goal to make it 2-0.
Despite the two-goal advantage, Southgate knew the second half would be challenging, and Ham & West came out strong. Their persistence paid off when a fortuitous rebound off a Southgate stick found its way into the top corner, narrowing the scoreline to 2-1. However, Southgate responded with composure. Julie Bragg sealed the victory with a clinical finish, taking the keeper on one-on-one before calmly slotting the ball home. The player of the Match, Sofia Nosinova, was instrumental in the team’s success. Her precise passing and exceptional team play were key to Southgate’s dominance throughout the game.
This win highlights Southgate’s strong form going into the second half of the season as they look ahead to their next challenge. A great team effort all around—well done W5s!
