🏑 Southgate Juniors Weekly Round-Up 🔴⚫

✨ Happy New Year & Welcome Back! ✨

After a well-earned festive break, it was fantastic to see everyone back on the pitch for the first time in 2026.  With some training sessions unfortunately cancelled due to the weather, it made match play this weekend feel even more special –  a real sign that the season is back underway!

Despite the conditions causing some disruption, we still had some great moments to celebrate and a really positive start to the second half of the season.

U14 Boys – Whales

The U14 Whales kicked off 2026 in style with a superb 7 – 2 home win against Indian Gymkhana.

A confident, attacking display and a great reward for their hard work before Christmas.

Goals from: Freddie (3); Cyrus (2); Oli (2)

A brilliant way to start the second half of the season.  Well done, boys!

U16 Girls – Pumas (Tier 3B)

This one will definitely go down in the memory bank!

Officially, the U16 Pumas had to concede the fixture as they only had eight players available, meaning the result goes down on paper as a 0 – 5 loss.

However, in a wonderful show of sportsmanship, Ealing lent us a goalkeeper and a few outfield players so the match could still be played and the Pumas responded with grit, teamwork and determination to win 1 – 0 on the pitch!  A lovely, very composed goal from Lily, created through excellent team work on a short corner.  Calm, controlled and perfectly executed!

So… officially lost, but actually won.  Huge credit to the girls for their resilience and attitude, and a big thank you to Ealing for showing what club hockey is all about.

Weather Disruption

Unfortunately, the rest of the weekend’s fixtures were rescheduled due to the weather, and with some training sessions also cancelled, opportunities to get back on the pitch have been limited.  Fingers crossed for kinder conditions in the coming weeks!

Looking Ahead

Even with the weather throwing a few challenges our way, it’s been a positive and encouraging first step into 2026.  The energy, spirit and togetherness across the club were clear to see.

Thank you, as always, to our players, coaches and families for your flexibility and support.   Here’s to a brilliant second half of the season.  Welcome back and let’s go, SHC!   🔴⚫ 🏑
