🏑 Southgate Juniors Weekly Round-Up 🔴⚫
Another brilliant weekend at Southgate, filled with goals, grit, great energy and some wonderful individual achievements. Here’s everything you need to know!
U14 Boys
5 – 0 Home Win!
A huge congratulations to our U14 Boys who delivered an outstanding 5–0 victory against Teddington HC.
The performance was electric from start to finish, with slick passing, sharp movement and fantastic finishing.
Goals: Charlie (2), Gabriel (1), Kaylan (1), Oli (1)
A brilliant team effort – well done, boys!
Under16Boys – London Indoor
3rd Place Finish
A massive effort from the U16 Boys who finished third in the London Indoor competition.
With two games left in the round-robin, everything was still to play for but the boys fell 5 – 3 to Surbiton and then 3 – 2 to Wimbledon, conceding with literally the last touch of the match.
They were:
Missing key players
Hit with an early injury to Kitt
Under constant pressure
…but still produced heroic hockey with unbelievable effort and heart. With slightly sharper finishing, the results could have swung the other way. Extremely proud of this group!
U16Girls – Pumas
The Pumas battled hard for a 1–1 draw with Ealing B.
They dominated possession and created more chances, but the final score didn’t quite reflect their control of the match. Another strong performance and loads to build on.
⭐ Celebrating Lucy Cope ⭐
This week we shine a very special spotlight on Lucy Cope, our incredible U12 coach, who has been awarded the first Jack Petchey Leader’s Award at Southgate Hockey Club – an honour recognising her outstanding dedication to young people at the club.
Lucy is the heart of the U12s. Her commitment is unwavering, her passion for the game shines through in every session, and her kindness sets the tone for the entire age group. The players adore her, the parents appreciate her, and the club is immensely proud of her.
Lucy is more than a coach.
She is the calm voice of reassurance, the spark of encouragement, and the steady presence our children look for every Thursday and Sunday. Her commitment is extraordinary – week after week, she pours her time, energy, kindness, and passion into every single young player who steps onto the pitch.
What makes Lucy special isn’t just what she teaches. It’s how she teaches. With warmth. With patience. With joy. And with an unwavering belief in every child’s potential.
Our players adore her – they run to her, they trust her, they try harder because she believes they can. Parents see it too: her gentle encouragement, her thoughtful feedback, and the way she goes above and beyond to make every child feel seen, supported, and part of something bigger.
Lucy, thank you.
For the early mornings, the preparation, the smiles, the care, the passion… for all the little things that add up to something truly huge.
You are shaping young people not just as hockey players, but as confident, happy, resilient humans and we are so grateful.
We hope this award shows even a fraction of how valued you are.
You make Southgate better.
You make our children better.
And we appreciate you more than words can say.
Inspiring More Girls to Try Goalkeeping (with a big thank you to Miriam!)
We had a fantastic response last Sunday from our U10 girls who stepped forward to try goalkeeping and we want to keep that momentum going!
A huge thank you to Miriam, who joined the session to help introduce more girls to the position. Her calm guidance, encouragement, and enthusiasm created such a positive environment that many players felt confident enough to pull on the pads for the very first time. The girls absolutely loved it, and several have already asked if they can try again.
Because of this brilliant interest, we’re hoping to run a follow-up session this Sunday so even more girls can experience what goalkeeping is like – fun, fast, challenging, and incredibly rewarding.
If your daughter is curious, brave, loves trying new things, or simply wants a different way to enjoy hockey, goalkeeping could be a great fit. It builds confidence, sharp reactions, and leadership. Discover a whole new side of the game! Absolutely no experience is needed.
A huge thank you again to Miriam for inspiring our young players and helping them discover that stepping into a goal can be exciting, empowering, and full of possibilities.
Goalkeepers play one of the most empowering roles on the pitch.
We’d love to see even more girls step forward and give it a go.
Another Fantastic Week at Southgate
From brilliant wins to brave performances, to inspiring leadership both on and off the pitch – this club continues to shine.
Well done to every coach, player, manager and volunteer.
Bring on next week!
