Ronan Casella will be looking forward to his Saturday afternoon. After a week off and fresh from a fine performance in Suffolk against the Harleston Magpies he and his team have the chance to put a real marker down in Division One South.
There was a feeing from the players that some points had been left out there in some of the early games with some tight results not quite landing for Ellie Robinson and her side. Yet strong performances have followed against Guildford and The Magpies which showcased the quality of the Southgate side.
Teddington offer a real threat sat fourth in the league but equal on points with 3rd place Holcombe and just 3 points from 1st they all spy a chance to push their claim on the league on Saturday afternoon. Yet their goals have dried up a little since their 0-5 demolition of Sevenoaks on the 4th October with just 2 goals scored from the last few games- most recently a 1-1 draw to Surbiton on home soil. Yet defensively they are a shrewd and thrifty outfit- just 3 goals conceded all season thanks to the performance of GK Emily Overend.
It should make a for fascinating encounter, two well matched sides both looking to dominate. Make sure you get down on the balcony to cheer them on

Southgate M1 vs Wimbledon M1

Southgate v Beeston – EH Men’s Premier Division at Southgate Hockey Centre, Trent Park, London, UK on 26 October 2025.

Southgate M1 have enjoyed a bit of down time this week after the exertions of a mammoth double header weekend but were back at training last night and putting in the work to be raring to go ahead of a massive game against one of the country’s top sides- Wimbledon.
Huw Stevens spoke of his pride after the Beeston thriller last week which saw his players find a way to bring the first win of the season in a 2-1 end to end contest that had supporters of both sides biting their nails and covering their eyes as the tension build inexorably as the game hurtled towards a scintillating climax.
James Hickson managed a brace of goals from two well crafted drag flicks and James Clifton celebrated the winning goal on Sunday- his first for the club. The question is can they build on the 4 points from last weekend against one of big boys of English Hockey. The last time the sides met was in the Super 6’s finals in Derby back in January and Southgate will be spying a chance for some revenge served cold.
Wimbledon come into the game 2nd in the league hot on the tails of Surbiton and looking to extend their advantage over 3rd place Old Georgians. Coach Karl Stagno is a wily operator and has found a way to edge results from the last 4 games all separated by just one goal or less. Most recently a surprisingly close 3-2 win against newly promoted Brooklands- a game played on home turf. Against Beeston on the 18th October they only managed an equally close 1-2 win. Yet the key point is that mercurial confidence that has allowed them to push through these keenly contested games converting pressure to points. Wimbledon sit undefeated with 16 points- dropping just two against Old Georgians in a 1-1 draw on the 4th October.
Huw Stevens and his coaching team are resting Max Hendry who is still recovering from the concussion sustained on Saturday against East Grinstead and call on a similar looking side to the winning team from Sunday with Rob Shearer back in the side after impressing on Sunday.
Southgate’s defensive record belies their goal difference- 3 goals conceded in 3 games – the question is can they take their chances against a strong defensive Wimbledon unit led by Welsh international keeper Toby Reynolds-Cotterill. Erdal Demir will at the other end be keeping an eye on skipper and goal threat Sam Hooper not to mention new signing Kei Kaeppeler and GB’s Ben Fox.
