The Southgate Lions (the clubs Mens 035 side) look forward to welcoming The Harleston Magpies in the 4th round of this years Tier 1 Cup competition.
The Lions come off the back of a 10-3 win against Chelmsford before Christmas but expect some stiffer competition from the Suffolk based club who make the long journey south after successive wins against Bishop Strortford and Norwich in the earlier rounds.
Iain Gordon makes his competitive return to the club after injury took him out almost a year ago in a M1 game against Reading. Look out as well for appearances from some familiar faces across all the lines as the Southgate side look to pave their way to Lea Valley. Lion Captain Alastair Whatley said,
“We are expecting a really good game against the Magpies who have already beaten two quality oppositions on their cup run to date. The Lions are however confident we have the depth of squad to take on any team- but as ever will need to make sure we all turn up (literally and metaphorically) on the day! Whatever the result we expect a competitive game on Sunday- we are looking forward to it and to welcoming the Magpies to Southgate.”
The Southgate Lions team marks a shift from the previously known Flagons side as England Hockey steer their competition age bracket masters events to align with the regional masters. Thus 040’s have become 0’35’s. Elsewhere this year our Mens 055’s have progressed through to the next round after a nail biting game away to Bury St Edmunds.
If you can do come down and support the Lions on Sunday!
