Match Report by Dervla McErlean

This week the 6s were away in Highgate against Hendon and Mill Hill W2s. Another week for 6s not having a keeper, but following some coaching advice from Akshay a few games ago we knew what we had to do. With a flying visit from Lily Chiang, a strong defense of Dervla, Andrea, Lily and Claire.

It was a great start in the game with Didi and Eloise holding the midfield centre and Isher and Jess out wide. Between Lynn, Alice, Suneeta and Mbali the game started strong. Hendon and Mill Hill’s hits were no joke with the first half ending 2-0 to them.

In the second with a position change for Mbali to find her true calling in right back, with an unbelievable amount of goal line saves, rivaling Andrea’s record. Lily went into centre mid with Eloise and the 16s were becoming much easier.

Alice had a shot on goal, the second half way much more attaching for Southgate. Jess and Eloise made some great runs. Unfortunately the umpires decided there needed to be a defensive flick against Southgate, Dervla stepped in, having confidence from her past life as GK, Hendon and Mill Hill went for the left side, but it wasn’t too far from her foot! A great effort either way, and the score was 3-0 to Hendon and Mill Hill.

A final goal from them but over a positive and very competitive match between the two friendly teams. Mbali made player of the match easily with no doubt on her goal line saves, she was relentless, the opposition couldn’t believe it. Another loss but the 6s got their run around and enjoyed the game!
