Ronan Casella has been announced today as Southgate HC’s new Head Women’s 1st Team Coach.
Ronan has spent the last two seasons coaching Southgate’s successful W2’s side taking them to a 2nd placed finish in the 24/25 season. Ronan has coached previously in Argentina, Australia and Italy as well as playing for Club San Fernando. Ronan will take over with immediate effect from his predecessor Andy Richardson who stood down in April after 3 successful seasons in the role,
Ronan said of his appointment, “It’s a great honour to step into this new role at Southgate. The past two seasons have been incredibly rewarding, and I’m enthusiastic about the journey ahead with this promising group of players. I can’t wait to build on the progress you’ve already made with Andy.”
Southgate Chairman Alastair Whatley said, “I am delighted to welcome Ronan into his new role at Southgate. He has impressed everyone at the club over the last few years coaching our W2’s side. I am excited to see how he will build on the foundations laid over the past 3 seasons as we set our sights on further success in the league and ultimately having our top Women’s team join our Men in the Premier Division of English Hockey”

Ellie Robinson Southgate’s Womens 1st team Captain said, “We’re so excited to have Ronan onboard for what promises to be a great season for the Women’s 1s. Ronan has shown what his commitment and enthusiasm can do with two very successful seasons with the Women’s 2s. He’s very popular amongst the Women’s section, and the 2nd XI group have spoken very highly of Ronan’s fast paced approach, so we’re very much looking forward to working with him and for the season ahead.”
Southgate Director of Hockey Chris Pearce spoke of Ronan’s appointment saying, “Ronan has done an outstanding job over the last 2 years leading the Women’s 2’s to the brink of promotion to the National Leagues. His expertise, work ethic and hockey values are key aspects leading to his promotion to the 1st team Head Coach role. The foundations laid over the last three years have left the squad in a strong position to work towards the club target of Premier League hockey in the near future. I have no doubt that Ronan and the wider coaching team in the women’s section will work tirelessly to lead the club towards our ambitions”
