🏑 Southgate Juniors Weekly Round-Up 🔴⚫

Another fantastic weekend across the club with brilliant performances, huge smiles, and tons of progress at every age group. So much to be proud of!

U8s at Herts Festival

Our Under 8s were out in force at the St Albans Herts Festival, sending an amazing five teams – incredible depth, brilliant energy, and so many new players taking part in their very first tournament (some with just three weeks of hockey experience!).

Komodos: 4 wins, 1 loss
Crocs: 1 win, 1 draw, 3 losses
Caymans: 2 wins, 2 draws
Geckos: 2 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss

A huge highlight was watching one of our tiniest hockey tots, Fin, step up fearlessly to help the Geckos after last-minute team changes. No hesitation, no fear, just brilliant attitude

The future is bright!

U14 Girls

The U14 Girls had a gripping Tier 1 battle against Wimbledon Stormers.  The match could honestly have gone either way – superb quality hockey and huge effort from the whole squad.  They fell 2 – 1, with Scarlett scoring, but the performance was absolutely excellent. Onwards and upwards!

U14 Boys

A goal-fest for the U14A Boys, narrowly losing 6–5 to Ashford in a thrilling, end-to-end contest.  Goals from Zachary, Thomas (2), Ollie and Gabriel – loads of attacking intent and brilliant team play.  A hugely exciting match to watch.

U16 Boys

The U16 Boys travelled to Reading for an intense, high-quality match. At 3–3 with 10 minutes left, it was anyone’s game before a run of short corners turned the momentum. Despite the 6 – 3 loss, the boys were excellent and are through to the next round of Supraleague in February – what a brilliant achievement!

U16 Girls

The U16 Girls were superb against Hertford, going 1–0 up and keeping them under real pressure.  They eventually lost 3 – 1, but the quality of hockey, structure and work rate were outstanding.

The U16G Pumas delivered one of the games of the weekend – a 3–3 draw, followed by a 3–2 shootout win!  A rollercoaster: 2–0 up, then 3–2 down, then an equaliser with two minutes to go.
Special mention to Martha, who calmly took on the 1v1s with no goalkeeper available. Incredible composure.
Lovely praise from the opposition parents too – they commented on how friendly and welcoming SHC is!

What a weekend!

Huge congratulations to every player, manager, coach and parent.  Whether winning, drawing or learning – the progress, energy and commitment across the club are phenomenal.

Bring on next week!  Go Southgate! 🔴⚫ 🏑
