🏑 Southgate Juniors Weekly Round-Up 🔴⚫
What a fun-filled weekend of junior hockey! From festivals and tournaments to league matches and friendlies, our pitches were buzzing with energy, teamwork and some brilliant performances right across the age groups. Huge smiles, great goals and real togetherness – exactly what junior hockey is all about.
U8s
Our two U8 teams did Southgate proud at the Herts Tournament.
- A Team won all their games, showing excellent technical skills and fantastic teamwork – one goal coming from an impressive five-pass move 👏
- B Team won 3, drew 1, and every player contributed with goals and skills they’ve been learning on Sundays. They even stepped up to play an extra match against an A side, showing real courage and confidence.
Very proud of them all – the future looks bright!

U12Bs
Our U12 Boys were at Woollam Playing Fields for the 5th Herts Tournament.
- Eagles: 1 win, 1 draw, 2 losses
- Falcons: 2 wins, 2 losses
There was lots of positive attacking play, excellent goals from Nivein, Bailey and Jacob, and the boys experienced shuffles for the first time. Huge shoutouts to Tommy and Ishan for outstanding goalkeeping performances, and well done to everyone for working so hard on a chilly Sunday morning!
U14Gs
A big weekend for our U14 Girls:
- Tier 1A at Beeston: A well-earned 1 – 1 draw, with Sofia scoring a fantastic goal. Despite losing the required shuffles 2 – 0, the girls fully deserved more! Even Beeston acknowledged they were outplayed.
Special mention to Oli, facing shuffles for the first time ever and pulling off three brilliant saves. This is a special group.
- Dolphins: Our amazing Dolphins go marching on with a 6 – 0 win against West Herts. Due to cancellations, the match counted as both home and away fixtures and we effectively had two 3 – 0 wins! Goals from Emma (2), Anya, Alessia, Sav and Viktoria.
U14Ba
Our U14A Boys narrowly lost 9 – 6 away to Thame HC. With low availability, the boys gave a strong, committed performance and were unlucky not to get more from the game.
Goals: Thomas (4), Ollie (1), Kamaran (1)
U16Gs
A superb performance from the U16 Girls, who won 5 – 1 against Sevenoaks with no substitutes.
Goals from Annabelle K and 4 from Genevieve! A brilliant friendly and perfect preparation ahead of next weekend’s A&C fixture.
U16Bs
- Lions vs West Herts: Postponed.
- Friendly at Chelmsford: A strong 4 – 0 away win ahead of next week’s big Supraleague game at Reading.
Goals from Kitt (2), Eddie and Eliot. Great momentum building!
U18Gs
- A superb 3 – 1 away win at a cold and wet Upminster. Despite a reduced squad and players covering different positions, the girls were outstanding in their effort and support for one another.
A hat-trick for Millie and some truly outstanding saves from Amelie in an end-to-end contest.
Huge thanks to Otto for stepping in to coach.
U18Bs
- A dominant 11 – 0 win vs Merton (recorded as 8 – 0 on GMS).
Goals from Alex (5), Jay (2), David J, David E, Akash and Luke.
The second half saw players trying unfamiliar positions to balance the game but they were unstoppable!
Special thanks to Aiden Tun, South African international and new M1 player, for coaching the team this week.
What a Weekend!
So much hockey, so many positives, and incredible effort across every age group. Whether winning, drawing, learning or stepping into new roles, every player showed commitment and team spirit.
Well done to all our juniors, coaches, supporters and volunteers!
Bring on next week! 🏑💪
