Southgate’s Ali Douglas and Calum Douglas went toe to toe with team mate Mohan Gandhi in Oman on Thursday lunchtime as Scotland clinched a place in the next stage of the Nations Cup with a thrilling 3-2 over USA.
It was a must win game for Scotland and the Douglas brothers were instrumental in the victory, mention must also be made to Surbiton’s Struan Walker for what must go down as one of the goals of the year to set the Scots on the road to victory.
It left Mo and his USA side needing a result to go their way as hosts Oman took on Austria and in a surprise scoreline Oman largely held the Austrians at bay and the 5-3 win wasn’t enough to see them through in this ‘group of death’.
Scotland take on Poland in their semi final tomorrow at 13:45 GMT and USA will take on Egypt at 11:30am.
