The M1 enjoyed a challenging fortnight of competition in the Premier Division Indoor qualifiers at Whitgift School. Whilst the temperature plummeted outside the M1 fresh from their 4th placed finish which led them to the Super 6s final for the first time in a quarter of a century last year looked to repeat that feat.
Ultimately despite a great win against Hampstead & Westminster some competitive performances especially against East Grinstead and Oxted the team fell short at key phases and will be back into Division One for next season.
Some stand out performances from Dan West and captain John Sterlini and a fine Southgate debut from Aiden Tun who arrived from South Africa and was thrown in at the deep end. Also to be celebrated were the debuts of James Willoughby, Scott Ellis and Matt Burgess who managed a brace against former champions Old Georgian in the last game.
The squad showed real spirit over some difficult games- special mention to players like Is Walker who managed the games on the first weekend before working back from injury on the 2nd and Alex Newitt who despite locking himself in a car park and almost breaking his coaches foot in the warm up still made it for the whole weekend and put in some big minutes against Old Georgians and Oxted.
Old Georgians, Surbiton, Wimbledon and Oxted head through to the Super 6s finals next weekend and Sevenoaks will join Southgate in Division One next season.
